UA62784 is a fluorenone specific inhibitor of CENP-E(centromere protein E), which is a kinesin-like motor protein. It is known that CENP-E migrates towards the kinetochore during mitosis and is essential in spindle formation. UA62784 acts as a specific inhibitor of CENP-E via binding to the motor domain of the protein. As a result of this inhibition cell cycle arrest occurs during metaphase via inhibiting chromosome congregation at the metaphase plate. It is believed that this is a result of UA62784’s ability to inhibit CENP-E microtubule associated ATPase activity. Furthermore, UA62784 can selectively destroy pancreatic cancer locus 4-deficient cancer cells.
