FPL 55712 is a leukotriene inhibitor that specifically inhibits Leukotriene D₄ (LTD₄), LTE₄, LTF₄, and LTC₄. Studies report that this compound is a competitive antagonist of these leukotrienes and is a more effective inhibitor of LTE₄ and LTF₄ in comparison to LTD₄ and LTC₄. Additional experiments suggest that, in vitro, FPL 55712 prevents metabolism of Arachidonic acid into lipoxygenase products in murine cells. Furthermore, results show that FPL 55712 is also a slow-reacting substance of anaphylaxis (SRS-A) antagonist via inhibition of cyclo-oxygenases.
