SaSelect plates may be read within 18-24 hours incubation:

• Phosphatase activity allows direct identification of Staphylococcus aureus colonies, which leads to pink to orange colonies, at 18-24 hours.
• Glycosidic activity allows differentiation of other Staphylococcus species, which leads to blue colonies.
• In the absence of the two activities previously mentioned, the colonies appear white to yellow.

Principle

SaSelect is a chromogenic medium, which fertility lies in an optimised concentration of nutrients. The selectivity of this medium is based on the presence of salts, antibiotics and antifungal growth inhibitors for the majority of microorganisms with the exception of staphylococci.

Intended Use

SaSelect is a selective chromogenic agar medium for the rapid isolation of Staphylococcus aureus within 18-24 hours. Detection of specific enzyme activities allows direct identification of Staphylococcus aureus and differentiation from other staphylococci.
