CHT 陶瓷羟磷灰石 (Ca5(PO4)3OH)2 介质是当今要求极高的下游过程工艺中主流的纯化介质。这种混合介质具有独特的选择性和分辨率，经常能分离一些其它层析和电泳技术无法区分的蛋白质。CHT介质能够结合宿主细胞蛋白质、滤取的 A 蛋白、抗体调光器和集合能够用在从样品捕获到精纯的每一步。
CHT 陶瓷羟磷灰石具有以下稳定的特性，因而可提高效率、产量和经济价值：
- 在高流速下捕获效果优异，可应用于小试研究到规模放大
- 对上游原料的高载量
- 优异的选择性，可以进行两步式色谱处理
羟磷灰石 (Ca5(PO4)3OH)2 是磷酸钙的一种形式，可用于生物分子的层析分离。 五个钙双联体（C 位点）和一对含羟基的磷三联体（P 位点）组按一个重复的几何图形排列。 在该材料的电子显微照片中可看到重复六边形结构；其拉曼光谱中的空间填充模型和重复结构目前也已完成。
两种类型的 CHT 陶瓷羟磷灰石（I 型和 II 型）介质均有 20、40 和 80 µm 三种大小不同的颗粒尺度。两个类型介质的洗脱特性都具有类似于晶体羟基磷灰石，但还有一些重要差别：
- I 型，在 400°C 下烧结，蛋白载量高，且对酸性蛋白载量更高
- II 型，在 700°C 下烧结，蛋白载量较低，对早期洗脱蛋白及核酸的分辨率较佳，适合于纯化多种类的免疫球蛋白
