They occur in humans as five different classes including IgG, IgM, IgA, IgE, and IgD and are synthesized by the B lymphocytes. Diseases resulting from deficiencies of the immunoglobulins typically result in recurrent infections and are less severe than the immunodeficiencies due to T cell defects or immunodeficiencies due to defects in both T and B cells. Immunoglobulin deficiencies also are seen in other non-genetic conditions including protein losing enteropathies and the nephrotic syndrome
