Ionomycin is a selective calcium ionophore derived from Streptomyces conglobatus that mobilizes intracellular calcium stores.It is used as a research tool to raise the intracellular level of calcium, to study calcium transport across biological membranes, and to stimulate the intracellular production of cytokines.

To change the solvent, simply evaporate the ethanol under a gentle stream of nitrogen and immediately add the solvent of choice.Solvents such as DMSO and dimethyl formamide purged with an insert gas can be used. The solubility of ionomycin in these solvents is approximately 1.4mg/ml. For maximun solubility in aqueous buffers,the ethanolic solution of ionomycin should be diluted with the aqueous buffer of choice. Ionomycin has a solubility of approximately 0.1mg/ml in a 1:10 solution of ethanol:PBS(pH7.2) using this method.we do not recommend storing the aqueous solution for more than one day.
