外观：类白色粉末
地塞米松（Dexamethasone，简称DXMS）于1957年合成，并列名于世界卫生组织基本药物标准清单之中，为基础公卫体系*药物之一。
价格低廉，在美国一个月疗程通常花费低于 25 美元。在印度，早产疗程一次仅需 0.5 美元。在大多数国家都能轻易取得。是一种人工合成的皮质类固醇，可用于治疗多种症状，包含风湿性疾病，某些皮肤病、严重过敏、哮喘、慢性阻塞性肺病、义膜性喉炎、脑水肿，也可能与抗生素合并用于结核病患者。本品在美国的怀孕分级为C级，需评估用药成效大于副作用才能给药；在澳洲则被评为*，表示本品常用于孕妇，且没有证据显示会对胎儿造成危害。
物理性状：白色类白色粉末；溶于乙醇，参考浓度为1 mg/mL；熔点为262-264℃。
用途：本品仅供科研，不得用于其它用途。干细胞生物学，生化试剂，生物活性小分子，细胞信号转导和神经科学，细胞生物学，酶、抑制剂和底物。广泛应用于分子生物学，药理学等科研方面。是一种人工合成的肾上腺皮质激素，目前一般认为其对各种原因（物理、化学、生物、免疫等）引起的炎症都有很强的消炎作用。如减轻炎症早期的渗出、水肿、毛细血管扩张、白细胞浸润及吞噬反应，从而改善红、肿、痛等症状；炎症后期，可抑制毛细血管和纤维母细胞的增生，延缓肉芽组织生成，防止粘连及疤痕形成，减少后遗症。
